On a dreary fall day, I took a walk in the city hoping to capture the multi-coloured trees scattered amongst the concrete. As is usually the case, what I imagined is not quite what I brought home. After sifting through 467 photos, I found a few favourites to share.
Fall colours of the city
The book “City of Ember” comes to mind, a story about a city crumbling and in need of repair.
Sometimes it feels like we are rats in a maze. Every morning we wake up to a new configuration of construction fences and directions.
These girls were a riot; the one in white caught me taking their picture. They enjoyed a romp around the square, hamming it up and keeping watch to be sure I followed.
They also inspired my idea of a new colour for the Crayola box.
COVID Mask Blue
Is it you?
That moment when you see a stranger and instantly think of someone you know. He reminds me of a boy I once dated many moons ago. I love the pop of red.
Art
Sometimes I just don’t get it.
Impressive
Cutting Loose
I could hear the buzz of a crowd coming; a feeling of anticipation, happy chatter beyond the horizon. This group of tourists rounded the corner, spread out and cut loose.
Photography tip 101 when taking pictures of people on the street, DON’T MAKE EYE CONTACT.
Caught for the second time that day, this lady turned to me with a cheeky grin, ‘I see you’.
But I had the last laugh when I responded in English. She was so surprised as she assumed there would only be French in Quebec.
Making a decision is not so easy here.
Jackpot!
Sometimes getting the right photo is a matter of patience and luck.
I spotted the man in the green jacket far off in the distance. I wanted to get the two workers and homeless man in the shot with him for a collection of colours. As he got closer, trucks and people kept blocking a clear shot. I knew I was running out of time but my patience was rewarded. Just as I focused in, I was gifted with a shock of blue.
The final two and my favourites
I have taken many photos of the building on the left. I love the colours and simple lines. The contrast of the three buildings takes my breath away. I can not do it justice. I will have to return again on a clear day with a bright blue sky as the backdrop.
Tell me the story
What do you think their story is? Who are these two men, how do they know each other, what is on their minds?
Play along with me, and write your idea in the comments below.

Business men on their lunch break, but where are their masks?
You are right Sheila, they are colleagues, masks seem to be the furthest thought from their mind as they discuss business.
Construction foreman on a smoke break?
Not a part of the construction site Brenda, but they do embrace the construction fencing as a way to create a private conference space.
Smoking his last cigarette before he gives up smoking for good. He is inhaling and appreciating the moment. His friend is watchful and supportive, letting him know that he is always by his side.
Barb, I love it! What a great description and how you make me feel in many situations… but it’s not the answer to their story 😉
